He believes in the power of collective action to tackle the world’s biggest problems.

Pia Mancini is committed to open-sourcing democracies in the digital age. She wants to enable every citizen to participate in day-to-day politics. She co-founded the DemocracyOS foundation, which designed a digital tool for citizen engagement, and the Net Party, an Argentinian political party.

Tessy Britton researches and prototypes new ways to support widespread practical participation to make our cities inspiring, exciting and happy places to live in. She supervises Participatory City, an initiative to build a participatory neighborhood in a London borough (+200,000 residents). She is also the co-founder of the Community lover’s guide to the universe.

Fab City Research Laboratory, Instigator


Tomas Diez is the director of Fab Lab Barcelona. His research focuses on the emergence of communities that manufacture goods locally with digital tools. He further explores how these new models of production transform our cities and the way citizens live, consume and relate to each other.
